Argentine Tango for the first time noticeably appeared in Poland in 1913. By the 1929 it was insanely popular and commonly danced.
Polish composers, such as Jerzy Petersburski, Zygmunt Karasinski, Artur Gold, Zygmunt Bialostocki, Fanny Gordon, Henryk Wars or Michal Ferszko created literally hundreds of melodies. Lyrics were written mainly by Andrzej Wlast, although Polish poets, such as Julian Tuwim and Marian Hemar happened to write some as well. The most popular singers, some of which performed after the war too, include Mieczyslaw Fogg, Adam Aston, Stefan Nowita, Wiera Gran, Hanka Ordonowna, Chor Dana.
Here, thanks to grooveshark.com, you can listen to, and hopefully dance to, my favourite Polish tangos from pre-war era. Enjoy.
